Allowance deadline July 31

July 21, 2016

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung today urged eligible families to submit Low-income Working Family Allowance applications by July 31 to receive eight months' allowances dating back to November.

A total of 3,880 applications involving payment of more than $52 million have been approved so far under the scheme which has received over 27,000 applications.

Of the approved applications, a family of six received the highest allowance amount totalling $30,000.

The claim period for applications received after July 31 will be standardised at six months.

The claim period for an application submitted on or after August 1 will be the six months preceding the month when the application is submitted.

Applications can be posted to the Working Family Allowance Office of the Working Family & Student Financial Assistance Agency at PO Box No. 62600, Kwun Tong Post Office.

They can also be sent through drop-in boxes at the allowance office, the agency's Student Finance Office, the Labour Department's Work Incentive Transport Subsidy Division, and the Social Welfare Department's District Social Welfare Offices.

A family of two or more members meeting the income and asset requirements can apply for monthly allowances as follows: $600 full-rate basic allowance, $1,000 full-rate higher allowance, $300 half-rate basic allowance or $500 half-rate higher allowance if the applicant meets working hour requirements.

Each eligible child can also be eligible for the $800 full-rate allowance or $400 half-rate allowance per month. The working hour requirements for single parents will be lower.

Applicants can call the 24-hour hotline 2558 3000 or visit enquiry counters at 9/F, 181 Hoi Bun Road, Kwun Tong.
