Secretary for Education Eddie Ng visited Shatin Tsung Tsin School today to see the "matchbox-style" school's development and changes.
Mr Ng inspected its facilities enhanced through the School Improvement Programme, such as special rooms, a student activity centre, a library, a staff common room, a covered playground, a hall and a lift, and saw how they make flexible use of space.
He said thoughtful planning has created an environment conducive to learning and established a caring school culture.
The school was established in 1975 at Lek Yuen Estate, the first public housing estate in Sha Tin.
It arranges for school maintenance through an annual major repairs exercise and a daily emergency repairs mechanism.
Mr Ng said the Education Bureau attaches great importance to school premises safety. It allocates recurrent subsidies to schools for handling minor repair works on their own every year, which streamlines administrative procedures.
For larger-scale or more complicated repair works, schools can submit applications under the annual safety exercise and the emergency repairs mechanism.
