HK students win physics medals

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng today congratulated five Hong Kong secondary students for winning medals at the 47th International Physics Olympiad in Switzerland.

 

They won a gold, three silver and a bronze.

 

"The excellent performance of the Hong Kong Team has indicated that we have students possessing immense potential in science,” he said, adding that the Education Bureau will continue to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics education to nurture more multiple talents.

 

Tai Wai-ting from Queen Elizabeth School won gold, while Lydia Mak from Good Hope School, Frankie Lam from Diocesan Boys' School and Jeff York Ye from GT (Ellen Yeung) College won silver. The bronze medallist was Brian Yang from Diocesan Boys' School.

 

A total of 398 contestants from 87 countries/regions took part in the event held from July 10 to 17 in Zurich.
