Scientific excellence:  Secretary for Education Eddie Ng (sixth left) congratulates local students for their achievements at the 17th Asian Physics Olympiad held in Hong Kong from May 1 to 9.

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng today met and congratulated students who won one gold and five bronze medals, eight honourable mentions and a special award for creativity at the 17th Asian Physics Olympiad.

Hong Kong hosted the Olympiad for the first time this year from May 1 to 9.

Praising the students for their achievements, Mr Ng said the good results fully demonstrated Hong Kong students' giftedness, potential and achievements in physics.

It also marked the successful collaboration among schools, the Academy for Gifted Education, University of Science & Technology, Baptist University and the Education Bureau, he added.

The bureau has been implementing Policy Address recommendations to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics education, including furthering curriculum development, organising teacher symposiums, enhancing teacher training and stepping up co-operation among schools, tertiary institutions, professional bodies and industries.
