The Committee on Prevention of Student Suicides held its first meeting today to discuss how to better understand the causes of student suicides.
Members agreed to set up five working groups on mental health, family, school, media and youth/post-secondary institutions for focused discussion, and to engage experts and stakeholders if necessary.
Committee chairman Prof Paul Yip thanked the community for its suggestions on the issue which will be discussed at working group meetings.
The committee will hold monthly meetings between May and August, while the working groups will have focused discussions and submit their proposals to the committee for further discussion.
The committee is expected to submit its report and recommendations to the Secretary for Education in October and if necessary, an interim report will be prepared in July.
