Summonses issued for wage arrears

April 25, 2016

The Labour Department has initiated prosecution action over wage payment defaults at Kai Tak Cruise Plaza.

The department has issued 62 summonses, including 31 against the employer and the director, for failing to pay wages wilfully and without reasonable excuse, and that the offences were committed with the consent, connivance or neglect of the director.

The department said it will continue to enforce labour laws strictly to safeguard the statutory rights and benefits of workers.

It has also provided assistance to the affected employees by lining up conciliation meetings with their employer and helping them file claims with the Labour Tribunal to recover outstanding wages.
