The Labour Department is doing all it can to help broadcaster ATV’s employees recover unpaid wages, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung says.
Mr Cheung told reporters today that the department explained to staff their employment rights and benefits, and provided employment services during a briefing session this afternoon.
He said the department has managed to canvass 260 suitable job vacancies in different broadcasting companies and a number of vacancies in the private sector, such as drivers and carpenters.
There is also a dedicated hotline available to ATV staff that will be open over the holidays from 9am to 6pm.
Mr Cheung reiterated that non-payment of wages is a criminal offence and the department is also pursuing whether to launch prosecution proceedings, adding that it will enforce the law stringently and strictly.
