Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung encourages students to make good use of the opportunity to explore their career aspirations, to prepare for their future education and career.

He spoke at the opening ceremony of Project We Can Exploration Day today.

The programme is supported by the Government’s Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, and is a three-way partnership among businesses, non-governmental organisations and schools, to help students identify their interests and strengths.

Today's event included diverse job activities, talks, career aspiration assessments, teacher-parent workshops and mock-interview workshops.

Professionals in pet grooming and pastry making were on hand to discuss prospects in their industry sectors.

About 50 schools have joined the project, in which 5,000 students are participating.

Mr Cheung noted that the Government had injected another $400 million into the partnership fund this year, half of which is earmarked for more after-school learning and support programmes.

“This is a very meaningful project. It’s a commendable project. Project We Can reflects the spirit of tripartite co-operation in Hong Kong. It underlines the involved commitment of the business community, to help propel Hong Kong’s development, particularly investing in our youngsters. So, I am very graceful for your support,” he said.

The fund’s Dedicated Fund for Implementing After-school Learning & Support Programmes' second-round application will be open for application from December 1, with a March 31 deadline.
