Police have launched a three-day campaign to promote school transport safety to tie in with the start of the new school year.
In the first seven months of this year, 65 people aged 16 or below were injured in 20 traffic accidents involving school buses or nanny vans, compared to 116 injuries and 23 accidents in the same period last year.
During the campaign, Police will distribute leaflets to school bus and nanny van drivers, teachers and parents to draw their attention to transport safety.
Drivers will be reminded to strictly follow the Road Users' Code and speed limits, and pay particular attention to student pedestrians. Police officers will also visit schools to deliver talks on school bus safety.
