E-learning support scheme launches

August 22, 2015

An e-learning support scheme under the Labour Department’s Youth Employment & Training Programme launched today, to provide pre-employment and on-the-job training for young people who seek to pursue careers in the sectors of information technology, education and creative multimedia.

It also facilitates the further development of electronic learning in secondary and primary schools in Hong Kong.

At the scheme’s launch today, Commissioner for Labour Donald Tong encouraged the trainees who would soon report for duty after pre-employment training to provide teaching and technical support for the schools they serve, and to keep equipping themselves for a promising future.

Trainees would have abundant development opportunities in the information technology, education and creative multimedia sectors, which are in need of young people with experience in information technology.

More than 5,000 young people have been trained to enhance their work experience and competitiveness through projects such as IT Seeds and TA Online which have been consolidated into the e-Learning Support Scheme. They target the position of e-Learning Support Associate, suitable for sub-degree holders, and e-Learning Support Assistant, suitable for Diploma of Secondary Education graduates.

Upon completion of pre-employment training, schools will engage the trainees for 12 months of on-the-job training. The scheme has attracted the participation of more than 100 schools and about 100 young people.

Mr Tong awarded certificates of completion of pre-employment training to the trainees and presented certificates of appreciation to participating schools, and wished them all a fulfilling academic year.
