Vocational report submitted

July 06, 2015

A taskforce on promoting vocational education today submitted a report to the Education Bureau, setting out strategies and recommendations to promote vocational education.

The report included 27 recommendations, which focus on rebranding and promotion.

The taskforce recommended the Government rebrand "vocational education and training" as "vocational and professional education and training (VPET)", which would include degree-level programmes focused on vocational skills or professional knowledge.

Promotion enhancement was recommended to boost VPET's professional image and awareness, with help from industries and the Government.

The taskforce also encouraged senior government officials to seize every opportunity to promote and support VPET, and the Education Bureau should also boost promotion of the Qualifications Framework.

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng thanked the taskforce for its efforts, adding that vocational education is pivotal in integrating education and employment in support of Hong Kong's development.
