Secretary for Education Eddie Ng today urged the community not to politicise the decision to extend the existing policy of fine-tuning the language medium at secondary schools for another six years.
He made the comment today after the bureau announced the policy yesterday.
He stressed the decision was based on solid professional considerations, adding that the education policy on the whole had gained wide support from schools and teachers.
He reaffirmed that the schools, particularly teachers, have gained a lot of experience in the past six years under the current policy. It will take more time for the policy to develop.
The earliest time for a full spectrum performance review will be 2016.
He added that his staff will proactively approach those schools currently allowed to teach in English that are failing to meet the requirements, to study their teachers’ professional development and the discrepancies in students’ levels.
