Eddie Ng mourns Rayson Huang

April 13, 2015

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng expressed deep sorrow at the passing of former Hong Kong University Vice-Chancellor Rayson Huang, and extended his deepest condolences to Mr Huang's family.

"Mr Huang was a distinguished scientist and had devoted his life to education and service to Hong Kong. As Vice-Chancellor of HKU from 1972 to 1986, he successfully led the university through the first phase of transformation and expansion of higher education in Hong Kong, thus laying a solid foundation for the continued growth and advancement of this world-class university in the decades to come," said Mr Ng.

Mr Huang also contributed tremendously to Hong Kong in other capacities, including as the Basic Law Consultative Committee Vice-Chairman and Legislative Council member.

"A man of wisdom and virtue, Mr Huang was the true embodiment of the spirit of HKU. I am confident that his vision will live on, and that generations of the HKU family will continue to be inspired by his passion for nurturing the best talent for Hong Kong," Mr Ng added.
