Oh Canada:  Secretary for Education Eddie Ng (centre) meets with Hong Kong students studying in Vancouver.

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng has encouraged Hong Kong students in Vancouver to return to Hong Kong upon their graduation to develop their careers.

Mr Ng began his duty visit to Canada today with tours of the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University where he met with dozens of students from Hong Kong.

As Hong Kong is facing serious demographic challenges arising from an ageing population in the coming years, he encouraged them to return to Hong Kong when they finish their studies.

The two universities value internationalisation, and Mr Ng looked forward to more opportunities for collaboration between Hong Kong and Vancouver's education institutions, including student exchange programmes.

Mr Ng also met with Canada's Federal Minister of State for Seniors Alice Wong and exchanged views on vocational education and multiple pathways for students.

Mr Ng will leave for Banff tomorrow, leading a Hong Kong delegation to participate in the International Summit on the Teaching Profession 2015.
