Gov't to set up $300m youth fund

January 14, 2015

The Government will set up a $300 million youth development fund to support innovative youth development activities, including assisting young people starting their own business, Chief Executive CY Leung has announced in his Policy Address.

He said details of the fund will be devised after consulting the Commission on Youth.

Mr Leung also revealed that starting from the 2015/16 school year, the graduate teacher ratio in public sector primary schools would be increased from 50% to 65% in the 2017/18 school year.

The Government will also provide subsidies for students to join at least one Mainland exchange programme each in the primary and secondary stages. It will also launch a pilot scheme to provide financial and other support for primary and secondary sister schools in Hong Kong and the Mainland to facilitate professional exchange and cooperation.

The Government also plans to refine the Business-School Partnership Programme as well as existing exchange and internship programmes.
