The Liberal Studies curriculum review is expected to be completed by July, garnering the views of schools, teachers, professional organisations and other stakeholders.
Secretary for Education Eddie Ng told legislators today the study is part of the New Academic Structure Review launched by the Education Bureau, the Curriculum Development Council and the Examinations & Assessment Authority in 2012.
It involves surveys, focus group meetings and forums to consult stakeholders.
Speaking on whether a subject should be a core subject or elective, Mr Ng said the decision should be evidence-based by considering whether the change can achieve the same education aims, maintain international standards and recognition, and bridge study and career pathways.
