The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.3% in the August-October quarter, unchanged from July-September, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.
The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.5%.
A non-seasonally adjusted increase in the unemployment rate was seen in the foundation and superstructure works of the construction sector, while a decrease was seen in the food and beverage service activities sector.
Total employment fell by 7,100 from 3,785,700 in July-September. The labour force also fell by 10,800 to 3,907,800.
There were 132,900 unemployed people and 57,000 underemployed people.
Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said the labour market was broadly stable in August-October, but as labour market indicators are lagging in nature, the impact of the Occupy movement on the domestic economy will be likely to surface in the coming months.
He said the Government will monitor the potential impact on employment and grassroots workers' income.
