Liberal Studies consultation to start

October 26, 2014

Views and discussion on the curriculum and assessment framework of the Liberal Studies subject are being collected and there will be further consultation from November.

The Education Bureau said tonight the consultation will involve surveys, focus groups, and forums for all stakeholders, including teachers, tertiary institutions, and employers, to ensure sufficient discussion.

The final recommendations of the medium-term review and the long-term development of Liberal Studies will be announced in July.

The bureau, the Curriculum Development Council and the Examinations & Assessment Authority will implement the review in phases based on professional and "student learning-centred" principles.

It said these review activities are not specifically related to the Occupy Central protests and are not held as a result of any instruction from any senior Government officials.

The bureau said it hopes political issues do not interfere with school curriculum development, and that the existing professional mechanism of curriculum and assessment development in Hong Kong is respected.
