Students late for school due to protests

October 09, 2014

Principal Assistant Secretary for Education Sophia Wong says Occupy Central protests are obstructing traffic, making students late for school.

Speaking at a press conference today, Ms Wong said classes at kindergartens in Wan Chai and Central & Western districts resumed today and most of them had students who arrived late.

Some parents even chose not to send their children to school due to traffic concerns.

Students were also late to most primary and secondary schools, although the situation is improving, she added.

She said the extra commuting time for students can tire them and affect their learning.

She again urged protesters to reopen major roads.

She also reminded parents to pay attention to traffic conditions and plan their routes.

Nanny bus operators and kindergartens should deploy extra manpower to take care of students if traffic conditions are not favourable, she added.
