Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung visited Kwai Tsing today to meet kindergarten students and a family that has just moved into the district.

Mr Cheung visited the Yan Chai Hospital Tung Pak Ying Kindergarten & Childcare Centre in Shek Lei Estate, and was briefed on its operations and how newly arrived students adapt to school life.

He also visited a family that had just moved into Shek Yam East Estate. The mother and son arrived two years ago to join the father.

The mother said she felt isolated, suffered from low-esteem, and at first, had a hard time finding employment because of communication problems and the lack of a social network, but with the Social Welfare Department's help, her situation improved.

Mr Cheung encouraged her to make good use of the services offered by social welfare organisations, and introduced her to the Labour Department's employment services.

He also met with more than 20 Kwai Tsing District Council members.
