Public schools with senior secondary classes will get an annual subsidy of $500,000 from the new academic year to boost life-planning support for students, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng said today.
He made the remarks on a visit to a Tsuen Wan youth centre.
The Federation of Youth Groups runs the Tsuen Wan Youth S.P.O.T. which offers more than 330 summer activities, including music and sports classes, a singing contest and adventure training.
Learning experiences beyond the classroom are of paramount importance, Mr Ng said, as they are conducive to students’ whole-person development and personal growth.
"The new Senior Secondary Curriculum has provided students with other learning experiences, including physical development, aesthetic development, moral and civic education, community service as well as career-related experiences.”
He said the life-planning support subsidy for schools will “help students better understand themselves and their aspirations so they can set their own goals as early as possible and make informed choices of further studies and career development".
Mr Ng also met with district councillors, and principals and representatives of local secondary schools.
