Continuing efforts:  Secretary for Education Eddie Ng chats with students at Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School.

Education chief urges positive attitudes

July 15, 2013
Secretary for Education Eddie Ng says the new academic structure provides multiple pathways for students taking the Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, and he urges them to pursue their interests and goals calmly, optimistically and positively.

Mr Ng visited Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School to distribute the exam's results to students today. Speaking to reporters after the visit, he said students have made progress after three years' senior secondary education, adding the exam results are only summaries of one stage, and there are still many opportunities and challenges ahead.

He said the new academic structure provides multiple quality and flexible study pathways for secondary graduates. There are 71,000 candidates of the exam this year, but there are at least 84,000 different study places.

Students can get their best achievements if they are well-prepared, persevere and are confident, he said, adding he hopes they continue their efforts for themselves and for Hong Kong.

Mr Ng said it was unfortunate 23 students were disqualified for plagiarism, and the Examinations & Assessment Authority has an established mechanism to handle the cases. He urged teachers to continuously remind students to respect the core value of respecting intellectual property.
