Business school:  Secretary for Education Eddie Ng briefs reporters on the University of Chicago Booth School of Business campus at Mount Davis.

Chicago Booth campus set for HK

July 11, 2013
The ex-Victoria Road Detention Centre site at Mount Davis will be allocated to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business to establish a campus, Secretary for Education Eddie Ng announced today.

He said he made the decision based on the recommendation of an independent vetting committee, and the site will be granted at nominal premium.

Financial Secretary John Tsang welcomed the move, saying the school will boost the region's intellectual capital.

Mr Ng said: "The establishment of a campus of Chicago Booth in Hong Kong will enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional education hub, nurture talent to support the growth of our economy, and strengthen Hong Kong's competitiveness."

Hong Kong has been ranked third among 80 cities in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s study on the best international education destinations in the world, he said, adding it recognises the achievements of Hong Kong's tertiary sector.

Chicago Booth is consistently recognised as one of the best business schools in the world, and it has operations in Chicago, London and Singapore.

Chicago Booth plans to offer its flagship Executive Master of Business Administration programme taught exclusively by the world-class faculty of Chicago Booth. It also plans to offer a variety of executive education courses.

Meanwhile, he also told the media the Queen's Hill site is very precious, so the Government must be very careful in considering its development.
