Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung launched the Junior Police Call Fight Crime Summer Camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village today.

He was joined by Acting Secretary for Security Sonny Au and Acting Commissioner of Police Lau Yip-shing.

About 1,800 Junior Police Call members took part in this year’s summer camp, held from August 15 to 18 as part of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

The event promotes fight crime and anti-drug messages.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Au said the Junior Police Call has been committed to fostering partnership with the community to combat crime and provide leadership training since its establishment in 1974.

He said he hopes this year's camp inspires members to become youngsters who respect others, adhere to the law, care for the community and are willing to take responsibility.

The officials toured the camp, inspecting the virtual reality glasses workshop and the game booths produced by members. They also went to a candle-making workshop.

Bowling athlete Wu Siu-hong, former Hong Kong Basketball Team member Leung Kwok-shing and representatives from an airline will speak at sharing sessions to help members explore future career development.
