3 inmates make grade for universities

July 12, 2017

Three young inmates have attained the minimum requirements for universities in this year's Diploma of Secondary Education Examination.

They were among the 19 young inmates from Pik Uk, Cape Collinson and Lai King correctional institutions who received their exam results today.

They took 109 papers in Chinese, English, mathematics, liberal studies, economics, and tourism & hospitality studies.

They obtained Level 2 or above in nearly 80% of the papers.

Two candidates attained the top grade, Level 5, in economics.

The highest scorer comes from Cape Collinson who attained 21 marks for six subjects.

Assistant Commissioner (Rehabilitation) of the Correctional Services Department Tang Ping-ming commended the young inmates for their determination in overcoming obstacles.

"Study prepares persons in custody for their reintegration into society, and academic qualifications obtained in public examinations improve their chances of finding jobs or furthering their studies."
