Learning centre fined for fraud

April 06, 2017

A learning centre was fined $3,000 by Kwun Tong Magistracy today for selling a course with false trade descriptions.

The centre was also ordered to pay four course participants $35,600 in compensation.

The sale of the three-day training course in Japan violated the Trade Descriptions Ordinance.

The Customs & Excise Department's investigation found the organisation that issued the course certificates was different from the one stated in the course advertisement.

Consumers can call the Customs hotline 2545 6182 if they suspect goods bear a false trade description.
