Police have refuted media reports of its alleged involvement in an incident on January 27 concerning a Mainland citizen in Hong Kong.
In a statement tonight, Police said the case first came to its notice after a “Request for Police Assistance” report was received on January 28.
An investigation was launched immediately.
Despite a January 29 request by a family member of the Mainland citizen for the case to be withdrawn, inquiries have continued and Mainland authorities have been contacted for assistance.
It said news reports claiming it was involved in the incident are speculative and untrue.
