New arrangement for Korea travel

August 16, 2016

Hong Kong and Korea will streamline the enrolment procedures for the use of automated clearance services from August 22 when Hong Kong Special Administrative Region electronic passport holders can enrol for the service directly at enrolment centres, the Immigration Department announced today.

The existing arrangement is for eligible HKSAR passport holders to complete pre-enrolment on the Internet and produce a printed notification slip upon enrolment for the use of the automated clearance at the enrolment centres in Korea.

The streamlining arrangement will spare the pre-enrolment step while the enrolment criteria will be kept unchanged.

HKSAR electronic passport holders aged 17 or above with no adverse record in Korea can enrol for the service at the enrolment centres in Korea with their passport, which must have at least six months' validity.

Those who have already completed pre-enrolment on the Internet but have not yet enrolled at enrolment centres in Korea can also directly enrol at the enrolment centres in Korea without having to produce the notification slip if they meet the enrolment criteria.

The new arrangement will be implemented on a reciprocal basis to provide greater travel convenience to Korean visitors.

Enrolment is on a voluntary basis and is free of charge.

The pre-enrolment service on the Internet will stop after August 22.

The enrollment of HKSAR and Korean passport holders under the existing arrangement is still valid and they are not required to enrol again.
