Customs officers have arrested a truck driver after finding 2.7 million illicit cigarettes in an incoming container truck at Man Kam To Control Point yesterday.
The haul was valued at $7.3 million with a duty potential of $5.1 million.
Officers inspected the truck declared to be carrying assorted cargo and found the cigarettes in 165 carton boxes.
The 28-year-old male driver was arrested and the truck was impounded.
Customs said today it would continue to carry out stringent enforcement action against the smuggling of illicit cigarettes at boundary control points.
