Turkey travel alert raised to red

July 16, 2016

The Government has raised the Outbound Travel Alert for Turkey to red in view of the situation there.

It said Hong Kong people should avoid non-essential travel to the country, while those who are already there should stay indoors, monitor the situation, attend to personal safety and avoid protests and large gatherings.

Those who need assistance can call the Immigration Department at (852) 1868, the Chinese Embassy in Turkey at (90) 5388215530, or the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Istanbul at (90) 5313389459.

As at 4pm today, the Immigration Department received 12 assistance requests involving 27 Hong Kong residents. They are now staying in safe places, but wished to obtain the latest information on the airport and flights due to temporary cancellation of flights from Istanbul to Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, there are currently two group tours involving more than 30 people who are currently safe in Istanbul.

The Security Bureau is monitoring the situation and will issue updates through the media and the bureau's website.
