Gov't House protest condemned

July 02, 2016

Police have condemned the participants of a public procession for breaking the law and endangering the safety of themselves and others by charging cordon lines.

Although the protestors marched from the Central Government Offices to Government House yesterday without notifying Police according to the law, officers helped them get to the destination in a safe manner.

As the road outside Government House's main entrance on Upper Albert Road is narrow, cordon lines were set up on Lower Albert Road to enable the protest to be conducted at the east gate for the sake of public safety and order.

However, some protestors pushed Police and charged the cordon line during the protest. Officers had no choice but to use pepper spray after warnings and display banners were not heeded.

Police said they will facilitate all lawful and peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and order, adding that resolute actions will be taken against any illegal acts.
