Police have issued a total of 15 verbal warnings and 1,741 summonses to pedestrians failing to comply with road traffic regulations during a week-long pedestrian safety campaign.
From May 20 to 26, 1,360 summonses were issued for failing to observe a light signal on a signal crossing, 166 summonses for crossing the road within 15 metres of a footbridge/pedestrian subway other than by these passageways, and 104 summonses for crossing the road within 15 metres of a light signal crossing other than by the signal crossing.
Pedestrians, particularly seniors are reminded to cross the road safely and with care. Failure to comply with the law is liable to a maximum fine of $2,000.
