One Bangladeshi and six Vietnamese illegal workers have been jailed for between 12 and 15 months by the Sha Tin and Kowloon City magistracies.
During raids on May 11 and 12, Immigration Department officers arrested four Vietnamese men and two women aged 23 to 39 who were working in restaurants and food factories in Sham Shui Po, Hung Hom and Tuen Mun.
Three of the men and a woman are non-refoulement claimants holding immigration recognisance forms prohibiting them from working, while the remaining man and woman are illegal immigrants.
They were all charged with taking up employment after landing in Hong Kong unlawfully and remaining in Hong Kong without the authority of the Director of Immigration or while being a person in respect of whom a removal order or a deportation order was in force.
All six pleaded guilty and were given jail terms of up to 15 months on May 13 and 14. They also pleaded guilty to using a forged Hong Kong identity card or a forged ID card copy.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old Bangladeshi man was found conveying construction waste in Tuen Mun earlier this month.
He pleaded guilty at Kowloon City Magistracy on May 14 to taking up employment in Hong Kong without the authority of the Director of Immigration and while being a person in respect of whom a removal order was in force, and to using a Hong Kong identity card related to another person.
He was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment.
