Six South Asian illegal workers were jailed for between 15 and 17 months by Sha Tin Magistracy yesterday.
Immigration Department and Police officers arrested one Pakistani and five Bangladeshi illegal immigrants, aged 26 to 44, during an April 11 raid in Tin Shui Wai.
They were conveying goods and classifying scrap metal components from waste materials at a recycling depot.
The men are non-refoulement claimants holding an immigration recognisance form prohibiting them from working.
They were all charged for taking up employment while being a person who remains in Hong Kong without the authority of the Director of Immigration after having landed in Hong Kong unlawfully or being a person in respect of whom a removal order was in force.
