Gov't cracks down on parallel trading

May 04, 2016

Law enforcement officers have arrested 29 Mainland residents over the past month for breaching their conditions of stay by being involved in parallel trading, and refused 395 entries.

Police and Immigration officers cracked down on parallel trading activities in Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and North District between April 22 and May 2.

The Customs & Excise Department also stepped up intelligence exchange and co-operation with Shenzhen authorities and cracked 38 smuggling cases involving parallel traders, seizing goods worth $380,000.

The department also detected 141 cases of attempting to export unlicensed powdered formula involving 815 kilogrammes of milk powder.

Twenty-seven summonses were issued for obstruction and nuisance in public places caused by parallel traders; more than 200 Fixed Penalty Notices were given to littering offenders; and 465 fixed penalty tickets were issued to those who violated traffic rules.

Lands Department officers inspected more than 2,400 units and 22 agricultural lots to identify lease breach cases involving parallel trading activities.

The departments will continue to take enforcement action against parallel trading and minimise the nuisance to residents.
