Customs officers will conduct patrols to enhance consumer protection for tourists during the May 1 Golden Week period.
Officers will patrol shopping areas for tour groups and dried seafood shops, drugstores and jewellery shops.
The Customs & Excise Department has reminded retail shops and the tourist industry that making false trade descriptions, misleading omissions, aggressive commercial practices, and bait-and-switch tactics are illegal.
It advised shoppers to study product specifications before purchase, do price comparisons and patronise shops with a good reputation.
They should also carefully check the price and unit of quantity before making payment and retain the receipt after purchase.
