Chief Secretary Carrie Lam today inspected the 174th Fire Services passing-out parade comprising 13 Mobilising & Communications Group senior firemen, 62 firemen and 48 ambulancemen.
Mrs Lam noted that the parade was the first to be conducted at the Fire & Ambulance Services Academy since its commissioning in January and holds special meaning for all the graduates.
She added that she strongly believes the graduates will fully utilise the professional knowledge and skills they have learnt and fulfil the department’s mission to serve the community and provide high quality and efficient emergency services.
The parade was followed by a demonstration of firefighting and rescue techniques by the graduates.
The 13 senior firemen, who completed 12 weeks of training, have started working at the Fire Services Communications Centre. The remaining 110 graduates will be posted to different fire stations and ambulance depots for on-the-job training to gain field experience.
Mrs Lam also officiated at the opening ceremony of the academy’s Fire & Ambulance Services Education Centre & Museum.
Visitors can learn about fire prevention, evacuation and first-aid treatment and firefighting knowledge using the interactive and multi-media information facilities at the centre, while the museum displays the department’s precious historical photographs, equipment and vehicles.
