Parallel trading action strengthened

February 01, 2016

Law enforcement agencies have stepped up joint actions against parallel trading activities in North District to prepare for the peak travelling season during the Lunar New Year.

In the past three days Customs officers detected 49 cases of attempting to export unlicensed powdered formula, involving 487kg of formula and 49 arrests.

The department, working with Shenzhen authorities at major boundary control points, detected 28 cases of parallel trading and seized goods, mainly electronic equipment, worth over $600,000.

During the same period the Immigration Department and Police arrested 11 Mainland residents for contravening their conditions of stay by being involved in parallel trading activities.

The Immigration Department also refused over 1,600 entries in January due to suspected involvement in parallel trading activities.

Targeting issues including obstruction and nuisance in public places caused by parallel traders and stores, the Police conducted six joint operations with the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department, and issued 82 warnings against obstruction and violation of the smoking ban.

Police issued 250 fixed penalty tickets over the past three days in connection with road obstructions caused by illegal parking and loading or unloading of goods.

The departments will continue to take strict action to combat unlawful activities related to parallel trading.
