8.3m holiday travellers forecast

The Immigration Department estimates 8.32 million passengers will pass through land, sea and air immigration checkpoints during the Lunar New Year holiday period, up 2.3% on last year.

 

For outbound traffic the busiest day will be February 6 with an estimated 346,000 passengers leaving Hong Kong.

 

Inbound traffic will be at its peak on February 10 when 399,000 passengers are expected to arrive.

 

About 2.35 million passengers, a daily average of 235,000, are expected to pass through Lo Wu control point from February 5 to 14.

 

Passenger traffic at Lok Ma Chau, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and Shenzhen Bay control points will also be heavy, with a daily average forecast of 128,000, 109,000 and 78,000 passengers.

 

Passengers are advised to plan their trips in advance and avoid making journeys during busy periods.
