Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen today met with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and several trade and arbitration organisations in Beijing.
Mr Yuen met Vice Minister of Justice Zhao Dacheng to discuss promoting the "One Belt, One Road" development strategy by Hong Kong's legal and arbitration sectors.
Mr Yuen said these sectors have a wealth of experience in trade and investment laws as well as international trade law, adding they can provide professional legal and dispute resolution services in making trade and economic ties with countries in the "One Belt, One Road" zone.
Mr Yuen then met Vice-Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Yin Zonghua, and representatives of the China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission.
He also met Beijing Arbitration Commission representatives.
He then signed an arrangement with Dean of the Renmin University of China Law School Prof Han Dayuan on legal exchanges and co-operation between the institute and the Department of Justice.
After arriving in Beijing yesterday, Mr Yuen met Supreme People's Court Vice-President Shen Deyong and attended the opening of a Mainland summer internship programme for Hong Kong law students.
