Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen says the Department of Justice will engage independent Senior Counsel to advise on whether to prosecute in a police assault case.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Yuen said it will ensure the ultimate recommendation made by the department is independent, and perceived to be independent by the community.
He said the department fully appreciates the sensitivity of the case, adding prosecutors will decide whether to proceed with prosecution without taking any political consideration into account.
Speaking on the co-location plan for the Express Rail, Mr Yuen said Hong Kong and Mainland officials hope to implement the arrangement when the railway opens, and will ensure it complies with the Basic Law and Hong Kong laws.
