New Police chief appointed

Veteran officer:  New Commissioner of Police Stephen Lo joined the force in 1984.

Loyal service

Loyal service:  Mr Lo replaces Andy Tsang who has started pre-retirement leave after serving on the force for 37 years.

Taking over

Taking over:  Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Alfred Chau succeeds Mr Lo as Deputy Commissioner.

The State Council has approved the appointment of Stephen Lo as Commissioner of Police on the recommendation of Chief Executive CY Leung.

 

Mr Lo took up the new appointment today when Andy Tsang proceeded on pre-retirement leave after 37 years' service.

 

"Mr Lo has served in the Hong Kong Police Force for nearly 31 years and has extensive knowledge and experience in the operations and management of the Police Force.  Over the years, Mr Lo has made great efforts in enhancing the efficiency and professionalism of the Police Force. I am confident that he will lead the Police Force in meeting the challenges ahead," the Chief Executive said.

 

He also wished Mr Tsang a happy retirement and praised him for his "commendable efforts in maintaining the law and order of the community," adding that he "entrenched the service quality culture in the Police Force and demonstrated personal care and attention for frontline staff.  Under his able leadership, the Police Force has continued to excel as a world-class professional law enforcement body."

 

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Alfred Chau succeeds Mr Lo as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
