The Civil Aid Service today concluded a two-day exercise codenamed "Exercise Gazelle".

Held biennially, the exercise tested the efficiency and effectiveness of CAS members regarding command, control, communication and logistic support under various scenarios simulating Hong Kong being affected by natural disasters such as typhoons, or outbreaks of unknown communicable diseases and avian flu.

About 1,000 CAS officers and members from operations, administration and support units took part in the exercise at eight locations on Hong Kong Island and in the New Territories.

CAS Administration Force Commander Wong Chun-kong said: "The exercise was held successfully. We effectively evaluated our members' rescue skills and their ability to respond to emergency through simulating different scenarios, including tree clearance and manning of quarantine centre."
