Adequate police to be deployed

April 23, 2015

The Police will make the necessary risk assessment and officer deployment when officials are out in the community promoting the Government's political reform package, like any other public order event, Commissioner of Police Andy Tsang said today.

Mr Tsang's comments follow rowdy protests during a political reform publicity campaign in Mei Foo last night.

He told reporters this afternoon that it is the Police's responsibility to maintain public order and safety, adding that resolute enforcement action will be taken against any person who acts violently and unlawfully.

Responding to suggestions that seven police officers who allegedly beat a Civic Party activist during the Occupy movement last year had refused to stand in an informal identity parade, Mr Tsang stressed that all suspects, regardless of their background, are equal under the law. They can choose to remain silent or not co-operate, and he believed the officers were exercising their rights.
