The Immigration Department and Police arrested 23 Mainlanders, aged 25 to 70, in a crackdown on illegal employment in Sheung Shui yesterday.
The 12 men and 11 women were arrested for breaching their conditions of stay by being involved in suspected parallel goods trading at Po Wan Road, San Wan Road and Po Shek Wu Road.
Officers seized milk powder, food, red wine, skincare products, daily necessities, clothes, mobile phones and other electronic products.
A total of 2,030 Mainlanders and 14 Hong Kong residents have been arrested for parallel goods trading since 2012. Of these, 214 Mainlanders have been prosecuted, and 203 of them have been jailed.
