Occupation undermined law and order: CP

March 21, 2015

Commissioner of Police Andy Tsang has said last year’s illegal occupation movement seriously disrupted social order and undermined the rule of law, causing a sense of "lawlessness" in society.

Speaking to reporters after attending the 2015 Fight Crime Conference today, Mr Tsang said the movement had done Hong Kong great harm and that as the city's police chief, he did not want to see that happen again.

Mr Tsang added that large numbers of police officers were deployed to deal with the illegal occupation which prevented them from carrying out their regular duties. He noted that police work against drugs, vice and organised crime had to be suspended which seriously affected law and order.

Commenting on whether Hong Kong was at risk of a terror attack, Mr Tsang stressed that the Police had not received information on whether the city is a target, but that the force was prepared.
