Officer’s death classified as manslaughter

March 18, 2015

Police today reclassified a March 15 wounding case involving hawker control officer Wu Kwong-sum as manslaughter, after the officer died.

Police received a report at about 4.45pm on Sunday that the 58-year-old officer was found collapsed outside 25 Des Voeux Road Central.

He was sent to Queen Mary Hospital where he died today.

Initial investigations revealed that a South Asian male had pushed him to the ground before he collapsed.

A 36-year-old South Asian male was arrested in Central yesterday and charged with manslaughter in connection with the case.

He will appear before Eastern Magistrates' Courts tomorrow.
