The Office of the Licensing Authority is taking enforcement action against seven unlicensed guesthouses.
The office stepped up enforcement action against unlicensed guesthouses during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Since February 14, the office has made surprise inspections, sent undercover officers in as tourists and worked with other departments to crack down on illicit guesthouses throughout the city.
Of the 169 premises inspected, enforcement action is being taken against seven.
Over the past five years, the number of inspections of suspected unlicensed premises has increased from 2,678 in 2010 to 13,153 in 2014, reflecting the office's determination to curb unlicensed guesthouse operation.
