Customs officers have arrested a 54-year-old man and seized about 1.4 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine estimated to be worth $1.3 million at Hong Kong International Airport.
The man arrived at Hong Kong from Sao Paulo via Dubai. When checking his baggage upon arrival, officers found a neck cushion and jacket inside his rucksack to be abnormally heavy. X-ray checks revealed false compartments containing about 1.2 kg of the drug inside his jacket, while 200 grams were found soaked in the neck cushion.
The man, who claimed to be unemployed, will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug, and will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow.
