Customs officers have seized 1,608 smartphones worth about $1.7 million in two smuggling cases at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.
In the afternoon of November 26, Customs officers stopped an outgoing truck with a 40-foot trailer for inspection. A total of 912 smartphones concealed in three altered axles were found after removing the trailer wheels.
Later that day, another outgoing truck with a 40-foot trailer and an empty 20-foot container was stopped for examination. After removing the container, officers discovered 696 smartphones concealed in the false compartments in the trailer's middle and rear cross members.
The two drivers, aged 50 and 48, were arrested and the trailers were seized.
